This image depicts the Holy Cross Monastery in Germany. In 1233 the Holy Cross Monastery began in Regensburg or Ratisbon Germany. On July 25, 1853, Mother Benedicta Bauer, prioress of this monastery, sent four nuns to America forming the foundation of the Dominican Sisters’ presence in the United States. The women began congregations in today's Williamsburg NY and Racine Wisconsin.
